i was tossing and turning and the nightmare i had was as bad as can be IT SCARED ME OUT OF MY WITS !
AND THE NIGHTMARE WAS ME !
Seventeen year old Maggie Rodriguez had planned on doing absolutely nothing after her morning workout when her sister, Lucia, asked “Mags, Mrs. Morris wants to know if you’ll watch the twins for an hour or two?” Causing her to look up from her phone, she had been checking her facebook, to answer “Yeah, no problem.” and return to going through her notifications and seeing what her friends had been saying since she had been on last. She barely heard when her older sister said goodbye to their long time neighbor or said “She wants you to come over now, the twins are up and dressed.” In a voice that hinted at wanting to be talking to anyone other than her only sibling. Maggie exited out of the facebook app and threw her phone in her black Juicy Couture purse “Okay, I’m going. I’ll see you when I get home Luce.” She told her sister before shouting “Mama, ya me voy, adios!” to her mother, who in returned yelled back “No gritando en mi casa!” causing Maggie to chuckle as she walked out the front door of their new home. She had been babysitting Sabrina and Bryant Morris since they were two or three, and she loved those twins as if they were her own brother and sister. Taking a few hours out of her day to take care of them while their Mom ran her errands was no trouble at all. If there were anyone she’d drop everything for, outside of her own family, it would be the Morris family.
Getting in the car her parents had gotten her for her sixteenth birthday, Magdalena drove the fifteen minutes to the fancier part of Charleston (the place where she had once lived) and pulled up at her former neighbors house. She stared in the direction of the home she had spent much of her childhood in, she couldn’t believe that they lost it. There were so many memories there, and they simply couldn’t afford to live there anymore. It was so embarrassing, and she had no idea what she was going to tell her friends at school when she gave them a new address, in a neighborhood that was nowhere near as nice as what they were used to seeing her live in. Her senior year at St. Catherine’s was going to be very interesting, she was just thankful that the only time she would be going home was on weekends and breaks. When thinking back on her childhood memories in her former home, Maggie got out of her Lexus and walked up to the Morris’ front door. Just as she was about to knock she heard one of the twins, Bryant, yell “Mommy, Maggie’s here!” the excitement was apparent in his voice. Bryant was always happy to see her, well Maggie knew that Sabrina was too, but Sabrina was a little more shy than her twin brother. Still that didn’t stop Sabrina from retorting “Her name’s Magdalena.” having always hated when anyone used her nickname “I can call her Maggie if I want to, stupid!” Bryant said in a bratty voice. It wasn’t long before Sabrina yelled “Mommy! Bryant called me stupid again!” Stomping up the stairs as she did so.
She wasn’t able to help it, when Olivia Morris shouted “Bryant Charles Morris, if you call your sister stupid one more time you’re going to feel it!” down the stairs at him, Maggie had to smile. Yes, it was wrong of him to call his sister names, but his mother’s response to that was what got her. No matter how funny she had found it, Magdalena knew to compose herself when she saw that door was opening and Mrs. Morris was standing there, her chestnut brown hair falling straight and passed her shoulders. “Hello Maggie dear.” She greeted, genuinely happy to see Magdalena, “Hi Mrs. Morris, how’ve you been?” she asked as the older woman enveloped her in a warm hug. It took a moment before she replied “Oh I’ve been just fine, dealing with the twin tornadoes...as you can tell from the looks of my house.” Maggie took a peek inside to see that, indeed, it looked as if a few tornadoes had gone through her usually clean living room. She was just about to comment on the twins’ mess when Bryant ran up to her and asked “Are we gonna do something fun today Miss Maggie?” jumping up and down as he did. Smiling, she said “I was thinking that I’d take you and your sister to the park and let you play. How’s that sound?” Bryant ran off to ask his twin if she wanted to go to the park, and then yelled back that she said yes once he got an answer. Chuckling, Mrs. Morris said “Thank you for watching them on such short notice, I do hope they don’t cause you too much trouble.” Magdalena had learned early on that those particular twins spelled trouble, but she still replied “They’re usually pretty good for me, you go and take care of your errands. I’ll try to have them home by the time you get back.” Reaching down to grab the pink princess and red cars booster seats from beside the front door.
After leaving Magdalena with the usual instruction, Olivia gave both Sabrina and Bryant a hug and kiss before she walked out of the house and drove off in her new car. Finally getting to see Sabrina, Maggie exclaimed “Well look at you Miss Bri, don’t you look beautiful.” and it was true, though she was just as redheaded and freckled (they got it from their daddy) she was a very pretty little girl, her green eyes only made that even more apparent. With a shy smile Sabrina whispered “Thank you Miss Maggie.” putting her head down in order to hide her blush. Sabrina was five and a total sweetheart, it was so cute how easily she got embarrassed. “You two ready to go? We’ve only got an hour or so to play, may as well get the full experience right?” She asked, to which the twins nodded and ran to her car. Putting the booster seats in she buckled both of them in before climbing in the front seat, buckling her own seat belt and driving off in the direction of Edison Park. It took all of five minutes before they got there, and as soon as she let the twins out they were off in the direction of the playground. Looking to see exactly where they were, Maggie grabbed an empty swing and pulled her phone out of her purse to check her facebook once more, looking up every once in a while to see what Sabrina and Bryant were doing.
